Head down to your local gym or health club and you are likely find people passionate about their fitness routine. Be it triathlon training, biking, yoga, running, jump roping, or land rowing there are plenty of different fitness routines being used successfully. Some people claim that this fitness routine superior to that fitness routine because yadda yadda yadda. Truth is any activity that gets you moving around and your heart rate up is going to be beneficial. More important that the specific activities comprising your fitness routine is that you maintain it regularly.
There are many fitness routines that people use to stay in shape and stay healthy. Many classic activities such as running and biking are still popular with clubs and groups being formed all over. With gas prices soaring many people are commuting by foot or bike, benefiting not only their health but the environment as well. Casual sports are an excellent way to maintain regular exercise while also having fun. Be it weekly pick up basketball game at a health club or tennis with friends any sport that gets you moving around is good. Other fitness routines such as pilates and yoga are quickly gaining in popularity. Yoga and pilates can be very beneficial for flexibility and injury prevention, making them excellent compliments to other fitness routines.
While a few people focus on only one activity, most find the combination of many activities to be the most effective. Varying exercise routines provides variety which can prevent boredom, essential for maintain good habits over time. Different activities also target different areas of the body and provide different types of stress upon it which promotes more balanced muscle and fitness development. Performing the same routine repetitively also allows our bodies to adapt and perform the movements more efficiently. While this adaptation is generally beneficial when the goal of the activity is to stress ourselves more it is actually counterproductive. Whatever exercise plan we try, it is important that we enjoy it otherwise maintaining it will be a chore and difficult. Finding the activities we enjoy is a more effective for improving fitness levels then attempting to perform routines we hate.
